It seems hard to believe that this time last year we had just celebrated the grand opening of the Extraordinary Charities Nonprofit Center. None of us would have believed that 2020 would bring so much upheaval and change. We have seen profound impacts on our families, our finances, our workplaces, and nearly every aspect of our lives. We have witnessed profound suffering and heartbreak, but we have also witnessed extraordinary efforts and deep compassion for our neighbors.
This year, it can be difficult to find reasons to celebrate – until you take a step back and consider how our nonprofit community has stepped up in the midst of unimaginable circumstances. At Extraordinary Charities, we have been able to respond to the changing needs of the community in a multitude of ways. For example, we’ve been able to partner with Hormel Foods to purchase several tons of meat which we then distributed to hungry families. We’ve worked with Hospitality Helping Hands, supplying toys and food for their weekly distribution. We’ve baked thousands of cookies for clients of Meals on Wheels, and we’ve provided personal protective equipment to several organizations in the community. Our nonprofit center served as a production hub for Digital Vibez’s virtual summer camps, and we’ve provided space for Genesis Assistance Dogs to train new dogs for their clients.
We have no idea what 2021 holds, but we do know that our nonprofit community is up for the challenge. However, the need for financial support is critical. Organizations are not able to hold large in-person events, which have been the mainstay of their fundraising efforts. Many are struggling to develop strategies to replace those events while continuing to serve ever-increasing numbers of clients. Everything that can be cut from budgets has been cut. Staff and volunteers have risen to the circumstances, but it will ultimately be up to each of us to do our part to support these organizations financially. Even if you think your contribution won’t matter – it will.
We remain committed to serving and supporting the nonprofit community as we work together to effect lasting, positive change in Palm Beach County. Thank you for your support of Extraordinary Charities and our nonprofit family, and thank you for your encouragement over the past year.
