Students with mild learning challenges find a positive environment – and new opportunities for educational success – at Potentia Academy, a comfortable, friendly former Greenacres residence that has been transformed into a school. Eighty percent of the students are on the autism spectrum or have intellectual challenges. They may have been bullied at other schools, but pick up confidence and pride in classrooms with specialized teaching suited to their needs. Tuition is $14,000 a year with state scholarship programs available. Students are placed in classes with students at the same learning level. Potentia’s curriculum is parallel with Palm Beach County School District’s High School Graduation requirements, said Principal Janice Meeks. The school has the lofty goal of doubling the number of campus buildings. Apprenticeship programs are envisioned, as well as a dual enrollment agreement with Palm Beach State College.
