Helping residents access basic safety net services is essential in a community with the overwhelming challenges of poverty, illiteracy, healthcare, and limited employment. The Glades Initiative, Inc. serves western Palm Beach County by assisting thousands of low-income residents, and farm workers, many of who are Haitians and Hispanic/Latinos who have limited English in obtaining food, health insurance, and other services. In addition to offering a lifeline for families in need of immediate assistance, The Glades Initiative provides hope for a better future through education and training. The Cooking Matters nutrition education classes teach families how to shop on a budget and prepare healthy and affordable meals. Our Glades Area Food Bank in partnership with our 12 partner distribution sites, provided over 85,000 lbs of food to thousands of needy families last year. The Glades Initiative researches community needs, and creates effective collaborative solutions, serving as a passionate advocate for change, making a lasting difference in the lives of individuals in the western communities.
