Children need to prosper emotionally, academically, and socially in order to be prepared for life. Many of them are doing that through a Lake Worth-based program called For The Children. Reginale “Reggie” Durandisse took over the agency in 1999 with the goal of building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities. As part of its diverse array of services, For The Children offers early care in education for children ages 35 (Kids Zone), 512 (Youth Zone), and 1318 (Teen Zone). Its Community Wellness program provides counseling, health education, parent support groups, case management, and linkage to other service providers. There are 211 children participating in the agency’s various programs. The largest cohort is the Youth Zone with 123 participants, followed by the Teen Zone (73), and Kids Zone (15). The agency has a garden at its main location where it grows fruits and vegetables that benefit the community. It’s an important part of the agency’s educational curriculum and provides a hands-on learning opportunity for the children.
