The statistics are alarming as well as disturbing: Families make up 40 percent of the homeless population in Palm Beach County – and one out of every 45 children will experience homelessness. Family Promise of North/Central PBC, Inc. helps families who are suddenly homeless and have no place to turn. Through a network of church congregations of all faiths, shelter and meals are provided for the families for one week at a time, up to four times per year. Family service coordinators provide intensive case management, which helps families achieve their goals. The Day Center gives them an address while in the program, a place to shower and do laundry and look for a job. The LIFE Program (Learning Inspires Family Excellence) involves mentoring for two to three years, helping to break the cycle of poverty. Success is measured with families returning “home” with first, last, and security deposit saved, stable employment, reliable transportation, and their children thrive in school. They have achieved the dream of independence.
